Financial Forensics

Financial forensics is our core service line.
We provide litigation support to counsel in all phases of commercial
disputes, from initial evaluation through settlement negotiations, and
post-judgment strategy. We examine the financial and accounting
elements of the causes of action, and provide assessments of the
qualitative merits of the claims, along with quantitative measurements
of damages. In particular, we work closely with counsel during
discovery to develop and implement strategy for business records
acquisition, the lynch pin of numerous commercial disputes. Specific
forensic projects include:
Preparation and processing of subpoena forms and attachments, for
service on third-party financial institutions, including banks, brokerage
houses, credit card & finance companies, title & escrow companies,
property managers, payroll companies, and similar entities;
Reconstruction and classification of financial and accounting records
and other business documents;
Review and analysis of financial/business records for evidence of
malfeasance in support of applicable theories of recovery;
Examination, interpretation, collation, and indexing of business records
and other documentary evidence for use at trial;
Preparation and labeling of records in exhibit form, for presentation at
trial or arbitration;
Microsoft Access database construction and operation for discovery
information management and real-time search and retrieve capacity.
Our extensive experience in providing this full range of litigation
support services in numerous complex litigation cases delivers real
value to the client's net position -- by efficiently locating crucial facts
that may otherwise be overlooked, and by fully informing counsel of
the legal implications of the evidence and the economic realities of the
case.
We search for meaning.
Financial, accounting and general business
records form the factual background of all
commercial litigation. But the amount of
information available in even small-scale
cases is extensive, often confusing, and
generally irrelevant. We sift through the
mounds of technical information and
extract the key facts. We isolate the
significant pieces and examine the ways in
which they fit together - to reveal the
meaning within the information.
Our directors have been continuously and
actively involved in litigation and audit
engagements in Southern California for
over 20 years, and the forensic staff is
directed by a bar member with over 12
years of commercial litigation experience.
Accordingly our analysis is informed by a
detailed knowledge of the law, and a deep
appreciation of the ways in which the law
is applied to facts in commercial cases.
The discipline of accounting is the art of
refining meaning from information.
Because we view information through a
litigation-oriented lens, we are able to
sharply focus our attention on familiar
signals and fact patterns.
Where others may overlook such signals,
we are trained to identify them and
understand their meaning.
The result is value delivered to the client's
case, in the form of superior knowledge.
